The Fludyer Arms Hotel
Attractions
Felixstowe is situated on the Suffolk coast between the Rivers Deben and Orwell. Like Suffolk, it has a distinctive charm of its own.
To the north the River Deben runs from Felixstowe Ferry to the pretty town of Woodbridge. The Saxon burial ship at Sutton Hoo is close by.
In the south the estuary of the River Orwell and Stour provdes home to some terrific sailing as well as Felixstowe Dock the largest container port in the UK. Spectacular views of this huge port and its massive container ships can be seen from the Public Viewing Point.
This is also a suitable place to divert for a moment and visit Landguard Fort, now restored and the site of the last contested invasion of England (by the Dutch) in the 1600's. There is also a bird reserve and a very popular Sunday Market.
You can walk the Golf Link's course and take the foot ferry to Bawdsey home to the development of Radar in the late 1930's and throughout World War II.
If you are looking to improve your game Felixstowe Golf Driving Range can provide tuition for all levels of ability.
From Ipswich London is just over an hour by a train service that runs deep into the night making shopping and taking a show in the Capital a practicable proposition.
North along the A12 you can find Africa Alive and Pleasurewood hills amusement park. For something a little quieter try Minsmere bird reserve, Easton Farm Park or the Birds of Prey at Stonham Barns.
Whatever your preference Donna and the staff can provide you with information, a packed lunch if required and have a warm welcome ready for you on your return.
